The Missoula Redevelopment Agency has been working to change the face and character of Missoula’s urban core for over 25 years. We believe that through the proper use of resources we can make Missoula a model for small cities in the Rocky Mountain West. Missoula’s first Urban Renewal District was the downtown. During the 25 years that the district existed, we transformed a largely dilapidated and abandoned commercial area into one of the most vibrant downtowns in the Northwest. Through careful use of tax increment dollars, we leveraged over $200 million of investment into the downtown through partnerships with private investors and other public agencies.
We are now concentrating on areas around the West Broadway/Russell Street corridors, the Brooks Street corridor and areas of the downtown that still need assistance. Our agency is both reactive and proactive when it comes to identifying projects where the use of tax increment funding is needed for good development. We work on large-scale economic development projects, like the redevelopment of the old Champion Millsite and the construction of a new parking structure on Front and Pattee streets. We also do small projects that create a more livable community by helping property owners with the renovation of their buildings and adding sidewalks where none exist.
We are proud to be a part of making Missoula one of the most livable and sustainable cities in the region. Feel free to look around our Web site and see what we are up to.
