Hello University Neighbors--
We hope you are enjoying our fall weather and are staying well. Since covid is still hindering our ability to hold an in-person neighborhood meeting we thought we'd share a few highlights of what the University District Leadership Team (UDLT) has been doing and other city news that pertains to our neighborhood.

Welcome new UDLT members
University neighborhood resident, Brad Cederberg joined our team last spring and this fall we welcomed two University of Montana representatives-- Lacey Zinke, Director of Fraternity and Sorority Involvement and Kat Cowley, Director of Bear Necessities. Both directors and their student representatives will help us stay connected with our university student neighbors.

Grant Proposal Ideas
Improve Bonner Park in 3 minutes or less!
Each year, the Missoula City Council allocates grants up to $6,000 through Neighborhood Project Funds (NPF) for Improvement grants. We are considering ideas for making improvements to Bonner Park. To help us, we'd love your input. Just a few minutes of your time could mean dollars invested to improve Bonner Park. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey (https://forms.gle/tTc2j7bDZajMqXBf9). Responses from neighborhood residents are especially valuable when applying for grants and other city resources.

Traffic Calming Circles
Three new calming circles were added to Maurice Avenue in an attempt to slow traffic between student housing and the UM campus. A huge thank you to Great Bear Native Plants for donating deer and drought tolerant native plants that were added to the circle planters. Additionally, the neighbors who had been caring for the traffic circle on Daly and Gerald Avenue have moved. If you're interested in adopting the circle, visit the Adopt a Traffic Circle website for information on grant funding available for plants and supplies.

A Message from Lacey Zinke, UM Office of Fraternity and Sorority Involvement (FSI)
Greetings--the FSI students, alumni, and myself look forward to cultivating a positive relationship with our University District Neighbors. We have two important events planned for the month of November. Here are short descriptions of each:
Can the Cats begins on Saturday, November 6th and runs through November 20th. Throughout this time, fraternity and sorority students will be participating in a contactless food drive. We will be picking up donations between the hours of Noon and 6pm on November 7th, November 13th, and November 17th. Flyers with more information will be distributed this week. Please ensure that this flyer is attached to your donation and that it is in an easy to spot location in the front of your house! All of the contributions collected throughout this time stay on campus within the University of Montana Food Pantry, which is an affiliate of the Missoula Food Bank.
Fall Leaf Raking for disabled and elderly university neighbors is coming Sunday, November 7th at Noon. If you would like to be added to the list, you may use the QR code on the flyer (that will be distributed this week) or give my office a call and leave a message at 406-243-2049.

Big Neighbor, Big Help, Big Thank You from UDLT!
Last year 40+ U of M athletes raked leaves and shoveled snow for over 30 neighbors in need of assistance. With sports back in full swing, we are excited to have Greek Life students step up.  Again this year, there are over 30 households signed up for fall leaves. Snow shoveling will follow. Thanks Big Neighbor!

City of Missoula Leaf Collection in the University Neighborhood is scheduled for November 8-12 and 16. Check out the map for details. Garden City Compost is also accepting leaves for free. More details are found here.
