Crews will work to replace and widen the Higgins Avenue Bridge deck during the first phase of construction. They'll start work on the west side of the bridge near the Wilma building. While construction is underway, travelers will use one lane in each direction on the east side of the bridge, which normally carries northbound traffic. That phase will last through May 2021.
Roadway and sidewalk improvements will be made at each end of the bridge. Along the west side, new foundations will allow for the wider bridge deck, new shared-use paths and the new stairway to Caras Park. The goal is to have both lanes of the bridge complete by the end of 2021 and to complete final paving, painting, striping and wrap-up in the spring of 2022.
The bridge rehab is a project of the Montana Department of Transportation. For complete information, visit the project website at https://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/higginsbridge/
