Lowell Elementary/Westside Park playground closed to public during school hours

Lowell Elementary/Westside Park playground and picnic shelter is closed to the public from 7:30am to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. This short-term solution is the result of interactions with members of the public in the playground area that are not conducive to a positive environment for students during recess. Westside Park is a shared school-community space.

Residents may use the playground after school hours and on weekends. Westside Park is alcohol, tobacco, and drug-free zone. Adults in the playground area must be accompanied by a child, and dogs are not allowed in the playground area.

MCPS and Parks and Recreation are collaborating to build a new playground at Westside Park which will meet the needs of the school community and neighborhood residents. Learn more about the project at

The splash deck, picnic shelter and restroom at Westside Park will also remain closed for the reminder of the school year. Due to City-County Health Department regulations, the splash deck cannot be operated without a restroom, and MCPS has fenced off the restroom. Splash decks at Bonner, Franklin, Marilyn, Sacajawea and Southside Lions Parks will be open through September 2.

For more information on the closure, phone Missoula County Public Schools at 728-2400. For questions about the park or the playground project, phone Parks and Recreation at 721-PARK (7275.)
