Bicycle and Pedestrian Office

Thanks to 35 years of dedicated staff and partnerships, the City of Missoula has achieved a gold level Bicycle Friendly Community designation and has a high walk score. Our office is committed to making Missoula the best place to bike and walk through innovative projects and effective, ongoing programs. Our mission is to reduce single-occupant motorized vehicle use and enhance non-motorized transportation options.

Missoula is home to more than 70,000 people and attracts over 1 million visitors a year. Biking and walking are great ways to view our beautiful city. Using foot or pedal power activates the body, supports local business, and reduces pollution, congestion, and parking pressure.

Whether you are a lifelong resident or vising for the weekend, we have the information and resources to help you reach your destination by bike and by foot.

Project Spotlights

S 5th St W and S 6th St W Transportation Function and Safety Analysis
After requests from the surrounding neighborhood, the City of Missoula studied S 5th St W and S 6th St W Higgins Ave and Russell St to see if any reconfigurations are feasible that may help address perceived issues of speeding, congestion, and safety for all users. There was a public meeting on Thursday, November 3 to present the 5th / 6th Street Traffic Analysis Memo and the 5th / 6th Street Traffic Model Output and gather feedback through a short survey on possible alternative options to the current configuration of the roadways.

This meeting kicked off a month long public comment period that will help City Council make a decision about a preferred alternative. For more information or to provide comment, please contact Ben Weiss, Bicycle/Pedestrian Program Manager 552-6352
