Transportation

Transportation plays a crucial role in shaping our community’s carbon footprint and quality of life. About 40% of our community-wide emissions come from transportation.

To address the environmental, mobility, and equity challenges we are facing, the City of Missoula is focused on reducing single-occupancy vehicle use and promoting sustainable and accessible alternatives. Our transportation goals include reducing the drive-alone commute share by 34% by 2045 and tripling the share of walking and biking, as well as quadrupling transit use by 2045.

Supporting electric vehicle (EV) adoption, improving public transit, and encouraging walking, biking, and rolling are key strategies to meet these goals. In addition, we are committed to achieving carbon neutrality as a community by 2050, in tandem with developing a safer, more equitable transportation system for all.
