For the duration of the Madison Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project, the general contractor, Frontier West, recommends using alternate routes and encourages drivers to plan additional travel time, especially from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., as there will be traffic delays on the bridge. Please obey all signage and flaggers and remember that fines do double in work zones. Crews will be in operation Monday through Friday from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Crews have completed pouring concrete in the northbound lanes.
Once the concrete work in the northbound lanes is completed, traffic will be switched over, and deck removal work in the southbound lanes will begin, weather permitting. This will take place in four to six weeks.
With events taking place at the Adams Center, and as traffic is reduced to two lanes on the bridge, please plan extra travel time. Please expect delays caused by congestion on the bridge and use alternate routes when possible. Throughout the duration of the project, due to the deck being removed in the northbound lanes, there will be large openings in the bridge. All pedestrians and cyclists are asked to not enter the work zone under any circumstances, day or night. Protective barriers will be installed to ensure that no debris falls from the bridge into the river or onto the trail system below.
The pedestrian/bike underbridge below the Madison Street Bridge, which connects the river trail system, will be open until mid-spring. The trail system will remain open throughout the project with the exception of the trail access directly south east of the bridge. However, for safety reasons during excavation, Frontier West will have signage in place at certain trail system access points. Please expect small delays.
On Nov. 21, work on the Madison Street Bridge support structures took place, and work is now underway on the bridge deck.
Headed by general contractor Frontier West, the primary goal of the Madison Street Bridge Rehabilitation is to fix the bridge’s failing bridge deck. In addition to bridge deck repairs, the project features structural, aesthetic and multi-modality improvements such as new lighting and railings, bike lanes, and expanded protected sidewalks. Work also includes repair of the bridge’s support structures. Construction launched in late November with improvements to pylons and other supporting structures under the bridge. The anticipated completion date of the Madison Street Bridge Rehabilitation is August 2017, weather permitting.
