Parks and Recreation staff and volunteers honored for service, contributions
Local parks, trails and open space advocates Bert Lindler and Kevin Verlanic, and Missoula Parks and Recreation staffer Meg Whicher were honored for their service and contributions to the parks and recreation movement at last week’s annual meeting of the Montana Trails, Recreation and Park Association.

Game lovers of all ages are invited to Fort Missoula Regional Park’s Throwback Game Nights, September 22 and 29 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bella Vista Pavilion.

Parks: Jumbo South Zone Closure Extended to March 31
The Mount Jumbo winter wildlife closure has been extended to protect wintering elk. The south zone, which includes all points south of the Saddle Road, will re-open to public use on Friday, March 31, weather permitting.

Parks: Master Plan approved for new bike park in Rattlesnake
Syringa Park, an undeveloped County park in the upper Rattlesnake, may soon be home to a “pump track”, a few “jump lines” and even some “slopestyle” features, according to the new master park plan recently adopted by the Missoula Parks and Recreation Board.

Police Seek Owners of Recovered Bicycles
The Missoula Police Department recently recovered a large number of stolen bicycles
from a Missoula residence, and now they're looking to reunite the bikes with their owners.

Parks: City to begin native forest restoration on Broadway Island
Broadway Island, a six-acre undeveloped park in the Clark Fork River, is getting a makeover this fall as Parks and Recreation crews remove harmful invasive trees and replace them with young native trees and hundreds of saplings to restore the island’s natural riparian habitat and improve public recreation access.

Kidsfest Slated for August 5
Kids and kids at heart are invited to join Missoula Parks and Recreation for Kidsfest 2010, a free summer celebration for Missoula youth, at Caras Park on Thursday, August 5, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission and most activities are free.

220 Acres Added To Mount Jumbo Open Space
Missoulians will have another 220 acres on Mount Jumbo to explore and enjoy when the City and County’s latest open space acquisition opens July 15. Citizens are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 15, at 11 a.m.

Missoula Mayor John Engen invited all Missoulians to join him for a community discussion of the challenges presented by housing prices in Missoula on Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 140 W. Pine St. About 125 people attended.
