Backflow Prevention

When buildup or debris block sewer lines, wastewater is stopped by this blockage and flows backwards toward the nearest opening. This in turn may cause contamination to the public water supply and/or your house or business.

Backflow preventer devices can protect water systems. These devices keep cross-connections from contaminating the water system:
  • Double check valve device
  • Reduced pressure device
  • Pressure vacuum breakers
  • Atmospheric vacuum breakers
When these devices are placed at the site of the cross-connection, they can protect the plumbing system from contamination. To protect the public water system from a backflow in an establishment's plumbing system, these devices should be placed just downstream of a water meter to the establishment.
