How to Plant a Tree in Boulevards
The Forestry Division performs many tree planting functions on public lands. With prior approval from the city Forester, property owners may plant trees in the boulevard. Property owners must submit a Tree Planting Permit to Parks and Recreation at least 5 working days before planting.
Property owners may choose a species from the Approved Street Tree List for planting in the City right-of-way. Citizens who wish to volunteer to maintain traffic circles on residential streets should consult the Approved Traffic Circle Plant List. Please do not purchase or plant any vegetation in the city right-of-way without contacting the Urban Forester at 552-6270.
Parks and Recreation offers Cost Share Tree Planting and Memorial Tree programs. Trees are purchased in March of each year for planting in the spring. Parks and Recreation staff will help you select the right tree and right location for your tree.
Cost Share trees are for homeowners who wish to have the Urban Forestry Division plant a tree in the boulevard; the cost is $200 per tree. Memorial Trees are planted in city parks to honor an individual, and come with a memorial plaque. The cost is $500 and covers up to two replacement trees and up to two replacement plaques, plus the cost of labor, supplies and equipment to plant the tree.
