- Open Space Acquisitions
The Open Space Acquisitions division oversees the purchase of new parks, conservation lands, trail easements, water rights, and other assets for the city's parks system. These acquisitions are funded through Open Space bonds approved by Missoula County voters in 1980, 1995 and 2006.
Acquired parcels, easements, and park improvements stretch across Missoula County. They are managed by the city, county, or local land trusts, depending on the location and nature of each property. The city's Conservation Lands Management Program oversees Open Space lands with significant natural areas owned by the city.
Open space projects are selected based on criteria outlined in the 2019 Urban Area Open Space Plan.
